Allergy Testing for Pets with Allergic Sensitivities
Allergy testing is commonly performed on chronically allergic pets with itchy skin and/or recurrent skin or ear infections after other problems have been ruled out such as:
Bacterial infections
Skin parasites
Food allergy
Pets with allergic sensitivities may suffer needlessly with excessive itching or chronic infections may be given improper treatment if their allergy is not recognized and diagnosed correctly.
Our hospital routinely tests dogs and cats for sensitivity to a wide array of allergens ranging from insects and grasses to trees and molds - even certain skin parasites.
At Dove Pet Hospital and Boarding we are familiar with the antigens that most commonly cause allergies in pets here in the Orange County area.
How is testing for allergies done?
- Testing requires simply taking a blood sample
- Blood tests require 2 weeks for results.
After results are received, the doctor than plans a course of desensitizing injections to help desensitize your pet to many of the things causing his itching and infection.
